Software Development: Incremental or Complete Coding

In my short experience in the corporate environment the there are two scenarios which every code monkey eventually gets to deal with. Which usually results in one of two outcomes, solve the software problem(s) the quick and dirty way or actually solve the software flaw and take longer. Now if this was a class room quiz, I would hope that you'd always pick the latter approach. However, in the real world time is never plentiful and speed isn't just encouraged, its a way of life.
