Stop clogging the tubes: Halo 3 Beta Edition

Well technically its still Wednesday May 16 on the east coast and Bungie seems to have gotten a patch out for Crackdown to allow the Halo 3 Beta downloads to begin (Check the update post here). However, the fallout of the problem seems to be making a pretty big impact on the web today with posts on digg, joystiq, and other sites all covering the madness. Bungie's own user forums were flooded with comments that ranged from childish to supportive from users who were down right pissed that they didn't get access to the much hyped beta. The effects included bringing down Major Nelsons site (majornelson.com) to its knees and with the new update you expect the tubes will be busy for the next couple of hours as Crackdown users try to get in on fragging goodness. Arstechnica has a decent post about the fallout of the beta delay which can be read here. However, on the plus side Bungie has extended the Beta time period to end on June 10 rather than the 6th, so we get 4 extra days of gameplay for (lets call it) a days delay, it'll probably be worth it. In the mean time I'm going to see if I my download is done.
